Inception

Inception:

Outline with examples how the film's narrative is designed to mirror the way video games are constructed:
- In the film inception it is designed in some ways similar to how a video game is constructed. One reason for this is in the scenes where the characters are in a lift, it could represent the different levels of a video game. Similar to this in the film as a whole the characters go deeper into dreams (A dream in a dream). This is in the same way a video game is constructed as the difficulty of the games increase the further you progress.

How does the film portray male anxiety and trauma?
- The film portrays male anxiety and trauma through the character of Cobb. In the film he suffers the     after effects of losing his wife. Throughout the film we discover that Cobb blames himself for the       loss of his wife and this is a key aspect of the film. When the characters go into the dreams of others   it becomes traumatic for Cobb as he can not escape from his wife that he visualises in the dreams.      This becomes a problem for the other characters as it decreases there chance of success when they      are trying to extract the information as it becomes a obstacle in the way as Cobb is trying to deal    with his grief and trauma. Another way male anxiety and trauma is portrayed in the film is through    the character of Fischer. This is because he is struggling with an internal battle of guilt, pressure and  doubt in himself. Throughout the film Fischer feels as if his late father was disappointed in him.  Therefore throughout the film we see him face the reality's of his fathers death and we see him come  to terms with his emotions.

How does the non-linear and multi-linear narrative in the film create meaning for the spectator?
- The non-linear narrative in the film creates meaning for the spectator as it allows the audience to         understand that all the dreams are different. All the scenes are in different locations and the dreams     do not follow a pattern which is the same as the film as the narrative means it doesn't have a clear       end or start point as we join the action in the middle of story. The fact that the film does not have a     clear ending also reflects dreams as their is never a clear ending that we can remember when we         awake.
